2nd place, World Bonsai Convention 2026

The Omni Lab

Second place

Terrarium Championship, World Bonsai Convention 2026

This is the piece: Becoming 空我

A white path climbs past the pagoda and over a small stone bridge.

At the top sits the Buddha, the end of a monk's long climb.

Come and build a little world with us.

Second place

Terrarium Championship, World Bonsai Convention 2026.

Becoming 空我 is the piece that placed: the same mountain you just scrolled through.

Becoming: a faceted glass terrarium holding a mountain of grey stone, moss and small trees, with a white path climbing past a pagoda and a stone bridge to a Buddha
A white path climbs past a pagoda and a small stone bridge to a Buddha at the top.

Built from the bottom up.

Every terrarium we build has the same eight layers, in the same order. Scroll, and build one.

  1. Lava rock

Lets water drain away from the roots.

Light, porous volcanic stone at the very bottom. Extra water collects here, away from the roots.

  2. Sphagnum moss

Holds water and keeps the layers apart.

A mat of dried moss over the rock, so the soil above doesn't wash down into it.

  3. Charcoal

    Keeps the bottom layers fresh.

A thin layer between the drainage and the soil.

  4. Hardscape

Stone and wood that shape the landscape.

Rock and wood go in before any plant, so the landscape has its shape first.

  5. Plants

Picked to grow well side by side.

Small plants that like the same light and moisture, planted by hand.

  6. Moss

    The green carpet over everything.

Pressed over the soil to cover it, like a carpet.

  7. Decorative sand and stones

A path to walk the eye through.

Fine sand and small stones, often laid as a path.

  8. Ornament

    Here, a small stone lantern.

The small piece that tells the story. At a workshop you choose one.

  9. Eight layers, one world.

You build it the same way at a workshop, with one of us beside you.
